Everything went according to plan when fourth ranked Alpo VR (8-7) outplayed on the road 7th ranked Virtus Cagliari (4-10) 74-47 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Alpo VR. Virtus Cagliari was better in second period 11-6. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Alpo VR forced 21 Virtus Cagliari turnovers and outrebounded them 40-26 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Power forward Elisa Ruffo (186-93) orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Power forward Chiara Terenzi (190-93) contributed with 11 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. German forward Annika Klein (190-92) answered with 6 points and 8 rebounds and guard Lidia Oppo (175-88) added 11 points in the effort for Virtus Cagliari. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Alpo VR maintains fourth place in A2 with 8-7 record. Loser Virtus Cagliari keeps the seventh position with ten games lost. Alpo VR will face Muggia (#9) at home in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Virtus Cagliari will play against Albino and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
