Regular Season Round 23: Tochigi Brex - Hitachi SR 90-99

An interesting game for Hitachi Sunrockers (21-5) which played road game in Tochigi against second-ranked Tochigi Brex (17-8). First ranked Hitachi Sunrockers managed to get a 9-point victory 99-90. Tochigi Brex was trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 5-point lead after three quarters before a 31-17 charge of Hitachi Sunrockers, which allowed them to win the game. They made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Hitachi Sunrockers outrebounded Tochigi Brex 41-30 including 26 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Tochigi Brex helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. International power forward Joji Takeuchi (207-85, agency: N.E.T.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. American power forward Joshua Heytvelt (210-86, college: Gonzaga) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Five Hitachi Sunrockers players scored in double figures. American power forward Ryan Rossiter (204-89, college: Siena) answered with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds and the former international guard Yuta Tabuse (173-80, college: BYU-Hawaii) added 6 points and 7 assists in the effort for Tochigi Brex. Tochigi Brex's coach Thomas Wisman rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Hitachi Sunrockers have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 21-5 record. Tochigi Brex at the other side keeps the second position with eight games lost. Hitachi Sunrockers are looking forward to face Hokkaido L. (#6) in Saporro in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Tochigi Brex will play on the road against Chiba Jets (#5) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
