Regular Season Round 16: Minas - S.Jose/Unimed 91-76

Date: January 21, 2015
Rather expected game in Belo Horizonte where 6th ranked Sao Jose/Vinac (9-7) was defeated by third ranked Minas (11-5) 91-76 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Minas. Sao Jose/Vinac was better in third quarter 16-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Minas forced 20 Sao Jose/Vinac turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Alex Oliveira (196-83) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 7 rebounds and the former international power forward Shilton Santos (198-82) who added 15 points and 13 rebounds during the contest. Minas' coach Demetrius Ferraciu used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American guard Andre Laws (188-80, college: San Diego) responded with 12 points and 6 assists and American-Jordanian swingman Jimmy Baxter (193-80, college: S.Florida) scored 12 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Minas maintains third position with 11-5 record having four points less than leader Limeira. Loser Sao Jose/Vinac dropped to the seventh place with seven games lost. Minas will face Mogi (#6) in Mogi das Cruzes in the next round. Sao Jose/Vinac will play on the road against Unitri in Uberlandia and hope to win that game.
