Regular Season Round 14: Fjolnir - Haukar 95-91

There was a minor upset in Reykjavik where 8th ranked Haukar (7-7) was defeated by tenth ranked Fjolnir (3-11) 95-91. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Haukar won third quarter 25-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Fjolnir had a 38-22 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Fjolnir especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Haukar helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American forward Jonathan Mitchell (200-87, college: Rutgers, agency: KMG Sports Management) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Arnthor Gudmundsson (187-91, agency: Dynamics Global Management) contributed with 24 points and 5 assists for the winners. Gudmundsson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Fjolnir's coach Hjalti Vilhjalmsson allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American forward Alex Francis (198-91, college: Bryant, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) replied with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds and guard Haukur Oskarsson (194-91) added 26 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Haukar. Four Haukar players scored in double figures. Newly promoted Fjolnir maintains tenth position with 3-11 record. Haukar lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh place with seven games lost. Fjolnir's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Reykjavik to the arena IR.
