Regular Season Round 14: Grindavik - Stjarnan 104-92

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Stjarnan (8-6) against ninth ranked Grindavik (7-7) on Thursday night. Visiting Stjarnan was defeated by Grindavik in Grindavik 104-92. The game was mostly controlled by Grindavik. Stjarnan was better in third quarter 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Grindavik shot 24 for 32 from the free-throw line, while Stjarnan only scored seven points from the stripe. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Stjarnan was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Rodney Alexander (201-87, college: Oklahoma City) notched a double-double by scoring 27 points and 14 rebounds to lead the effort and guard Jon Axel Gudmundsson (192-96) supported him with 22 points, 5 rebounds, 12 assists and 4 steals. Grindavik's coach Sverrir Sverrisson used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 26 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists by guard Dagur Jonsson (186-95) did not help to save the game for Stjarnan. The former international point guard Justin Shouse (181-81, college: Mercyhurst) added 21 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists for the guests. Five Grindavik and four Stjarnan players scored in double figures. Grindavik have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Haukar and Thor Thorl. Stjarnan at the other side keeps the third position with six games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Grindavik will play against Thor Thorl (#7) in Thorlakshofn in the next round. Stjarnan will play at home against Snaefell (#6) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
