The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked New Zealand Breakers (17-6) in Auckland on Friday night. Hosts were rolled over by sixth ranked Kings (9-13) 101-81. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of New Zealand Breakers. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 14-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 101-81. Kings made 25-of-31 free shots (80.6 percent) during the game, while New Zealand Breakers only scored six points from the stripe. 28 personal fouls committed by New Zealand Breakers helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman Josh Childress (203-83, college: Stanford) who helped to win the game recording 28 points and 6 rebounds and forward Tom Garlepp (203-86, college: UCSB) who added 16 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American guard Cedric Jackson (191-86, college: Cleveland St.) responded with 21 points and 7 assists and Fijian-New Zealand forward Mika Vukona (198-82) scored 12 points and 9 rebounds. Four Kings and five New Zealand Breakers players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kings maintains sixth position with 9-13 record. New Zealand Breakers at the other side still keep top place with six games lost. They share the position with Taipans. Kings are looking forward to face higher ranked Perth Wildcats (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. New Zealand Breakers will play against Perth Wildcats and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
