Regular Season Round 18: Cholet - Le Mans 83-85

A very interesting game took place in Cholet. It ended with only two-point home defeat of 14th ranked Cholet Basket (7-11) to sixth ranked Le Mans (10-8) 85-83 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It looked good early as Cholet Basket took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Le Mans had a 26-16 second period charge getting the lead and Cholet Basket was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 83-85. American Daniel Ewing (191-83, college: Duke) notched 17 points and 6 assists to lead the effort and forward Kevin Mendy (200-92) supported him with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Le Mans' coach Erman Kunter allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 17 points and 5 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) by American point guard Paul Delaney (188-86, college: UAB) did not help to save the game for Cholet Basket. Center Nicolas de Jong (210-88, agency: Comsport) added 13 points and 8 rebounds. Five Le Mans and four Cholet Basket players scored in double figures. Le Mans moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Nancy. Cholet Basket lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth position with 11 games lost. Le Mans' next round opponent will be Chalons-Reims (#14) at home and are hoping to win another game. Cholet Basket will play against the league's leader JSF Nanterre and hope to win that game.
