The most surprising game was another loss of top-ranked Hamamatsu Phoenix (24-5) in Mikawa on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by eighth ranked Oita Heat Devils (10-19) 82-74. The guests trailed by 9 points at the halftime before their 56-39 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Oita Heat Devils dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to Hamamatsu Phoenix's 22 and made 28-of-37 free shots (75.7 percent) during the game. 27 personal fouls committed by Hamamatsu Phoenix helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Americans were the main players on the court. It was a great evening for center Todd O'Brien (213-89, college: UAB) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 16 rebounds. Forward Kellen Thornton (201-88, college: Tennessee St., agency: David Lee services) helped adding 13 points and 11 rebounds. Oita Heat Devils' coach Yukinori Suzuki used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side forward Jermaine Green (203-80, college: N.Texas, agency: Haylett Sports) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Nile Murry (193-83, college: TCU) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds. Oita Heat Devils moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Bambitious Nara. Hamamatsu Phoenix at the other side dropped to the second position with five games lost. They share it with Iwate Big Bulls and Kyoto Hannar.. Oita Heat Devils will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Hamamatsu Phoenix will play again at home against Oita Heat Devils and is hoping to win this game.
