Regular Season Round 34: Abejas - Barreteros 88-72

Very predictable result when sixth ranked Abejas (17-15) won against bottom-ranked Barreteros (6-25) in Guanajuato 88-72 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Abejas. Barreteros managed to win third quarter 24-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American forward Steffphon Pettigrew (195-89, college: W.Kentucky) notched 18 points and 7 rebounds to lead the effort and American-Jamaican forward McHugh Mattis (198-84, college: S.Florida) supported him with 15 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Abejas' coach Armando Acosta used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. Even 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists by American Devon Pearson (198-84, college: SMU) did not help to save the game for Barreteros. His fellow American import point guard Camilo Valencia (175, college: MidAmerica Ch.) added 16 points for lost side. Five Abejas and four Barreteros players scored in double figures. Abejas have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place. Barreteros lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 25 lost games. Abejas will meet league's leader Halcones Rojos in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Barreteros will play against Jefes (#7) and hope to secure a win.
