Regular Season Round 16: Ferrol - Gran Canaria 48-58

There was a small surprise when eleventh ranked Gran Canaria (6-10) won against on the road 9th ranked Universitario de Ferrol (6-10) 58-48. It looked good early as Universitario de Ferrol took an 8-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Gran Canaria had a 24-12 second period charge getting the lead and Universitario de Ferrol was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 48-58. They outrebounded Universitario de Ferrol 50-36 including 37 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Samarie Walker (185, college: Kentucky) who helped to win the game recording 8 points and 21 rebounds and forward Vega Gimeno (185-91, college: Robert Morris, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who added 18 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American forward Denesha Stallworth (190-92, college: Kentucky) responded with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 14 rebounds and her fellow American import forward Haley Peters (190-92, college: Duke) scored 11 points and 6 rebounds. Gran Canaria moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Universitario de Ferrol. Gran Canaria will play against higher ranked Gernika (#5) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Universitario de Ferrol will play against the league's second-placed Perfumerias Avenida having rather not much hope for a victory.
