Regular Season Round 32: Akita NH - Fukushima 80-78

Ninth-ranked Fukushima (9-21) made lots of trouble for first ranked Akita Happinets (27-5) on Sunday. Akita Happinets managed to secure only two-point victory 80-78. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 80-78. Akita Happinets dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Fukushima's 34. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Akita Happinets made 9 blocks. The best player for the winners was American swingman Richard Roby (198-85) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists. The other American import forward Travon Bryant (206-83, college: Missouri) chipped in 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). American guard Verdell Jones III (195-89, college: Indiana) produced 22 points and 5 assists and point guard Masaya Karimata (178-88) added 17 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Five Akita Happinets and four Fukushima players scored in double figures. Akita Happinets have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 27-5 record. Fukushima lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth place with 21 games lost. They share the position with Takamatsu FA. Akita Happinets are looking forward to face league's second-placed Iwate Big Bulls on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Fukushima will play against Toyama Grouses (#3) and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
