Regular Season Round 25: Toshiba BT - Toyota Alvark 84-80

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Kanagawa. Third ranked Toshiba Thunders faced 4th placed Toyota Alvark. Host Toshiba Thunders (18-8) defeated guests from Tokyo (14-11) 84-80. Toyota Alvark trailed by 18 points at halftime and as many as 19 after three quarters before a 28-13 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 80-84 at the end of the game. Toshiba Thunders outrebounded Toyota Alvark 34-21 including a 27-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds for the winners and Senegalese swingman Mamadou Diouf (197-77, college: Delaware) chipped in 9 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side American forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) responded with 21 points and 6 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and international power forward Tenketsu Harimoto (198-92) scored 14 points. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Toshiba Thunders have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Loser Toyota Alvark dropped to the fifth position with 11 games lost. Toshiba Thunders will meet at home Chiba Jets (#4) in the next round. Toyota Alvark's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tokyo to the arena Hitachi Sunrockers.
