Very predictable result when fourth ranked Umana Venezia (12-4) beat at home 9th ranked Air Avellino (7-9) 79-71 on Sunday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Worth to mention a great performance of Croatian forward Hrvoje Peric (203-85) who helped to win the game recording 28 points and 9 rebounds (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field) and American point guard Phil Goss (188-83, college: Drexel) who added 14 points and 5 assists during the contest. Umana Venezia's coach Carlo Recalcati used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Hungarian Adam Hanga (200-89) responded with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and American guard Adrian Banks (191-86, college: NW Mississippi CC) scored 16 points. Four Air Avellino players scored in double figures. Umana Venezia moved-up to second place, which they share with Grissin Bon RE. Air Avellino lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with nine games lost. They share it with AV Cantu and Giorgo Tesi PT. Umana Venezia will meet Virtus Acea (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Air Avellino will play against AV Cantu and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
