Regular Season Round 17: Galil Gilboa - Maccabi Haifa 76-86

There was no surprise in Rosh Pina where 10th ranked Galil Gilboa (5-12) was defeated by eighth ranked Maccabi Haifa (8-9) 86-76. It looked good early as Galil Gilboa took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Maccabi Haifa had a 30-16 second period charge getting the lead and Galil Gilboa was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 76-86. Maccabi Haifa dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Galil Gilboa's 30. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. American swingman Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV) nailed a double-double by scoring 22 points, 17 rebounds, 7 assists and 7 steals for the winning side and the former international Dagan Yavzuri (193-85) accounted for 16 points and 6 assists. American guard Anthony Goods (191-87, college: Stanford) came up with 17 points and the other American import power forward Marcus Lewis (205-86, college: ORU) added 11 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Galil Gilboa in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Maccabi Haifa moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Hapoel Eilat. Galil Gilboa lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the tenth position with 12 games lost. Maccabi Haifa's next round opponent will be higher ranked Hapoel Holon (#6) at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Galil Gilboa will play against the league's leader Maccabi T-A (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
