Regular Season Round 20: Grindavik - KR 88-72

Rather expected game when 6th ranked KR (3-15) was defeated on the road by third ranked Grindavik (12-5) 88-72 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Grindavik. KR managed to win third quarter 21-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to KR's 30. Grindavik forced 29 KR turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was American swingman Kristina King (178, college: Richmond) who had a double-double by scoring 27 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals. The former international center Maria Ben Erlingsdottir (187-88, college: UTPA, agency: Promotex) chipped in 20 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Bjorg Einarsdottir (162-92) produced 23 points and 5 assists and Holton Tomasdottir Bergthora added 18 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Grindavik have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 12-5 record having five points less than leader Snaefell. KR lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh place with 15 games lost. Grindavik will meet league's leader Snaefell in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. KR will play against Hamar (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
