Regular Season Round 15: Stjarnan - Snaefell 97-88

Date: January 29, 2015
Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both third ranked Stjarnan and 5th ranked Snaefell had identical 8-6 record. This time Stjarnan used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Stykkisholmur 97-88 on Thursday night. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-17. But Snaefell won second period 27-26. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Stjarnan won last quarter 27-20. They made 31-of-32 free shots (96.9 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Stjarnan especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Justin Shouse (181-81, college: Mercyhurst) who scored 34 points (!!!), 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals (went 12 for 12 at the free throw line !!!). Guard Dagur Jonsson (186-95) chipped in 28 points. Four Stjarnan players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was naturalized American guard Austin Bracey (190-90) who recorded 30 points and American forward Chris Woods (195-89, college: Pfeiffer) added 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks respectively. Stjarnan maintains third place with 9-6 record having five points less than leader KR, which they share with Njardvik. Snaefell at the other side keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. Stjarnan will face Haukar (#8) in Hafnarfjordur in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Snaefell will play at home against Thor Thorl and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
