Regular Season Round 19: Pinheiros/Sky - Mogi das Cruzes 81-88

Very predictable result when third ranked Mogi (13-6) won against 10th ranked Pinheiros (8-10) in Sao Paolo 88-81 on Thursday. Pinheiros trailed by 11 points at halftime and as many as 13 after three quarters before a 30-24 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 81-88 at the end of the game. Mogi made 29-of-34 free shots (85.3 percent) during the game. Mogi outrebounded Pinheiros 35-23 including a 26-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for naturalized American Shamell Stallworth (195-80, college: USF, agency: Interperformances) who led the winners and scored 31 points. Forward Gerson Santo (206-91, college: Colorado St.) accounted for 8 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. American point guard Joe Smith (193-77, college: Al.-Huntsville) came up with 19 points and 7 assists and the former international forward Marcus Vinicius Toledo (201-86) added 15 points respectively for Pinheiros in the defeat. Five Pinheiros players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mogi have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain third place with 13-6 record having four points less than leader Limeira. Loser Pinheiros keeps the tenth position with ten games lost. Mogi will meet at home league's leader Winner/Limeira in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Pinheiros will play against SKY/Basquete (#15) in Aldeota and hope to secure a win.
