An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Auckland. First ranked New Zealand Breakers faced 3rd placed Perth Wildcats. Host New Zealand Breakers (18-6) defeated guests from Perth (14-10) 90-79. The game was mostly controlled by New Zealand Breakers. Perth Wildcats was better in third quarter 21-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. New Zealand Breakers made 18-of-23 charity shots (78.3 percent) during the game. Nigerian-American power forward Ekenechukwu Ibekwe (206-85, college: Maryland) orchestrated the victory by scoring 12 points and 8 rebounds. American-Fijian forward Tai Wesley (200-86, college: Utah St.) contributed with 11 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American forward DeAndre Daniels (206-92, college: Connecticut) answered with 20 points and 9 rebounds and the former international point guard Damian Martin (186-84, college: Loyola Mary) added 19 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Perth Wildcats. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. New Zealand Breakers maintains first place with 18-6 record, which they share with Taipans. Defending champion Perth Wildcats keep the third position with ten games lost. New Zealand Breakers will play against Townsville Crocodiles (#7) in Wulguru in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Perth Wildcats will play at home against the league's leader Cairns Taipans (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
