Regular Season Round 17: Hawks - United 93-82

An interesting game was played in Gwynneville where host Wollongong Hawks (#8) won against 5th ranked United 93-82 on Friday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Wollongong Hawks. United managed to win fourth quarter 33-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Wollongong Hawks dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to United's 38. American point guard Gary Ervin (183-83, college: Arkansas) stepped up and scored 20 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and international guard Rhys Martin (184-86, college: Nova SE) chipped in 20 points. American guard Jordan McRae (198-91, college: Tennessee) responded with 27 points and 7 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and the former international forward Mark Worthington (203-83, college: Metro St.) scored 8 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Wollongong Hawks maintains eighth place with 4-20 record. Loser United keeps the fifth position with 12 games lost. Wollongong Hawks will again meet higher ranked United (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. United will have a break next round.
