Regular Season Round 37: Foshan LL - Shanxi Zh. 139-146 OT

Tenth-ranked Foshan (18-19) made lots of trouble for seventh ranked Shanxi Zhongyu (26-11) on Friday. The visitors from Taiyuan managed to secure only seven-point victory 146-139. However their fans expected easier game. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Foshan. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Foshan won third quarter 38-34. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Foshan used huge pressure winning it 29-26 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 11-18. Shanxi Zhongyu made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game. American guard Von Wafer (196-85, college: Florida St.) stepped up and scored 55 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and his fellow American import forward Jeremy Tyler (208-91, college: Louisville) chipped in 24 points and 10 rebounds. At the losing side Lebanese swingman Fadi Khatib (199-79) responded with 41 points (!!!), 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and Nigerian-American point guard Josh-Emmanuel Akognon (180-86, college: CS Fullerton) scored 42 points (!!!) and 4 assists. Five Shanxi Zhongyu and four Foshan players scored in double figures. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Shanxi Zhongyu. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Guangsha L. and Jilin NE T. Loser Foshan keeps the tenth position with 19 games lost. Shanxi Zhongyu will meet at home Sichuan BW (#18) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Foshan will play against Xinjiang Flying Tige (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
