The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (23-6) in Tokyo on Saturday night. Hosts were rolled over by fifth ranked Toyota Alvark (15-11) 89-66. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Hitachi Sunrockers. The game without a history. Toyota Alvark led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Hitachi Sunrockers' 34. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Toyota Alvark made 8 blocks. American forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 7 rebounds. The other American import forward Michael Parker (202-81, college: Evergreen St.) contributed with 12 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Five Toyota Alvark players scored in double figures. American forward Ira Brown (193-82, college: Gonzaga) replied with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and Qatari-American guard Trey Johnson (196-84, college: Jackson St.) added 15 points and 4 assists in the effort for Hitachi Sunrockers. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Toyota Alvark maintains fifth position with 15-11 record. Hitachi Sunrockers at the other side still keep top place with six games lost. Toyota Alvark will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Hitachi Sunrockers' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face again at home their local rival from Tokyo Toyota Alvark.
