The game in Las Palmas supposed to be also quite interesting. Fifth ranked Gernika (11-6) played at the court of 7th ranked Gran Canaria (6-11). Gernika smashed Gran Canaria 92-52 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Gran Canaria. The guests trailed by 7 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 10-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 92-52. Gernika dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Gran Canaria's 26. It was a great shooting night for Gernika especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. The best player for the winners was American center Britany Miller (193-87, college: Florida St., agency: Josep and Nicolas) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Romanian forward Claudia Pop (182-89, agency: Josep and Nicolas) chipped in 25 points. Four Gernika players scored in double figures. Guard Iris Junio (185-99) produced 14 points and forward Vega Gimeno (185-91, college: Robert Morris, agency: Josep and Nicolas) added 16 points respectively for the hosts. Gran Canaria's coach Fermin Bosa gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Gernika have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Cadi La Seu. Loser Gran Canaria dropped to the ninth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Gipuzkoa UPV and Ferrol. Gernika will meet higher ranked Conquero (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gran Canaria will play against the league's second-placed Perfumerias Avenida (#2) in Salamanca and hope to secure a win.
