Regular Season Round 15: Proteas - Athinaikos 80-78

Eighth-ranked Athinaikos (4-12) gave a tough game to third ranked Proteas (13-3) in Voula on Sunday. Proteas managed to secure only two-point victory 80-78. However their fans expected much easier game. Proteas forced 23 Athinaikos turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for international center Maria Fasoula (190-97) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds. The former international guard Lolita Lymoura (180-85) helped adding 16 points and 10 assists. Four Proteas players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American power forward Diana Delva (188-88, college: Hartford) with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 21 rebounds and guard Afedoula Magaliou (168-79) scored 23 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Proteas maintains third place with 13-3 record having just two points less than leader Panathinaikos. Athinaikos at the other side keeps the eighth position with 12 games lost. Proteas are looking forward to face Ippokratis (#7) in the next round. Athinaikos will play against Panathlitikos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
