Regular Season Round 20: ToPo - Catz 77-62

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Catz Lappeenranta (18-2) in Helsinki on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by third ranked Torpan Pojat (14-5) 77-62. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Catz Lappeenranta. The game was mostly controlled by Torpan Pojat. Catz Lappeenranta managed to win third quarter 14-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Catz Lappeenranta 44-28 including 31 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international power forward Niina Laaksonen (185-85) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points and 17 rebounds and international swingman Heta Korpivaara (186-84, college: Seton Hall, agency: Regeneracom Sports) who added 24 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. American swingman Alexandria Anderson (186-86, college: Chattanooga, agency: Regeneracom Sports) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks and her fellow American import guard Chelsea Douglas (165-92, college: Wake Forest, agency: Regeneracom Sports) scored 22 points. Torpan Pojat have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 14-5 record having five points less than leader Catz. Defending champion Catz Lappeenranta still keeps top place with two games lost. Torpan Pojat are looking forward to face Peli-Karhut (#4) in Kotka in the next round. Catz Lappeenranta will play at home against the league's second-placed Aanekosken and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
