Regular Season Round 19: Azpeitia - Opentach Pla 74-87

There was an upset when higher ranked Azpeitia (7-11) was defeated at home by fourteenth ranked Opentach Pla (4-13) 87-74 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Opentach Pla. Azpeitia was better in third quarter 24-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 25-of-30 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game, while Azpeitia only scored eight points from the stripe. Azpeitia was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American forward Ridge McKeither (198-88, college: Angelo St.) who led his team to a victory scoring 25 points and 8 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Matthew Johnson (200-89, college: Columbia) helped adding 15 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side guard Ander Arruti (189-90) responded with 16 points and 5 rebounds and power forward Federico Ucles (204-93) scored 8 points and 8 rebounds. Five Opentach Pla and four Azpeitia players scored in double figures. Azpeitia's coach Iker Bueno rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted Opentach Pla maintains fourteenth place with 4-13 record. Azpeitia lost third consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with 11 games lost. Opentach Pla will face higher ranked CB Tarragona 2017 (#13) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
