Very expected game in Aldeota where 15th ranked SKY/Basquete (3-16) was defeated by tenth ranked Pinheiros (9-10) 91-85 on Wednesday. SKY/Basquete trailed by 14 points after 3 quarters before a 33-25 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 85-91 at the end of the game. Pinheiros made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. SKY/Basquete was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Joe Smith (193-77, college: Al.-Huntsville) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and the other American import guard Jason Smith (183-83, college: Al.-Huntsville) who added 23 points during the contest. The former international point guard David Rossetto (180-93) responded with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and Fernando Fischer (190-81) scored 22 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Five Pinheiros and four SKY/Basquete players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pinheiros moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Paulistano. SKY/Basquete lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the fifteenth position with 16 games lost. Pinheiros will face Brasilia (#11) on the road in the next round. SKY/Basquete will play against Palmeiras (#7) and hope to win that game.
