There was a surprise result when thirteenth ranked Brasilia (8-12) smashed at home higher ranked Palmeiras (10-10) 89-62 on Wednesday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 89-62. Brasilia made 16-of-17 free shots (94.1 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 Palmeiras turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of international Guilherme Giovannoni (203-80, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 4 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and American guard Kyle Lamonte (191-84, college: William Carey) who added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists during the contest. Lamonte is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Brasilia players scored in double figures. Argentinian-Italian point guard Nicolas Gianella (186-78) responded with 18 points and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and the former international Jhonatan Luz Luz dos Santos (196-87) scored 8 points and 8 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Brasilia moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Macae. Loser Palmeiras keeps the seventh position with ten games lost. Brasilia will face higher ranked Pinheiros (#10) in Sao Paolo in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
