Second Stage Round 8: Borisfen - GOCOR-Sozh 114-72

Very important is a road loss of third ranked GOCOR-Sozh (11-7) against fourth ranked Borisfen (10-8) on Friday night. Visiting GOCOR-Sozh was crushed by Borisfen in Mogilev 114-72. It looked good early as GOCOR-Sozh took an 3-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Borisfen had a 32-11 second period charge getting the lead and GOCOR-Sozh was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-114. Borisfen dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to GOCOR-Sozh's 44. Borisfen forced 31 GOCOR-Sozh turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Forward Evgeni Sugonyako (199-92) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds. Lithuanian point guard Vytautas Kamarunas (179-89) contributed with 21 points and 5 assists for the winners. Five Borisfen players scored in double figures. Borisfen's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Swingman Evgeniy Rybkin (195-96) replied with 25 points and 6 rebounds and Ukrainian forward Ivan Kaliayev (201-87) added 13 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for GOCOR-Sozh. Borisfen maintains fourth position in League with 10-8 record. GOCOR-Sozh at the other side keeps the third place with seven games lost. Borisfen will play against Rubon (#5) in Vitebsk in the next round. GOCOR-Sozh will play at home against the league's second-placed Tsmoki II and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
