Regular Season Round 15: Camaguey - Guantanamo 74-71

The most exciting game of round 15 in the Liga Superior took place in Camaguey. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 3rd placed Guantanamo (9-4) to sixth ranked Camaguey (5-10) 74-71 on Friday evening. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 40-36 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Camaguey forced 20 Guantanamo turnovers and outrebounded them 31-20 including a 24-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Camaguey especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 61.5 percentage. It was a great evening for international forward Leidis Oquendo (180-82) who led her team to a victory scoring 34 points (!!!), 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Forward Betsy Herrera (168-94) helped adding 28 points and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was the former international swingman Islen Carbonell (181-87) with 21 points and 4 steals and forward Oslaidis Rojas (180-91) scored 22 points. Guantanamo's coach Osmel Planas rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Camaguey maintains sixth place with 5-10 record. Guantanamo at the other side dropped to the fourth position with four games lost. Camaguey are again looking forward to face higher ranked Guantanamo (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Guantanamo will have a break next round.
