Second Stage Round 8: BGU Minsk - Rubon 81-85

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 6th ranked BGU Minsk's (6-12) home loss to fifth ranked Rubon (10-9) 81-85 on Friday. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Rubon dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to BGU Minsk's 40. The best player for the winners was Yahor Patupchik (191-94) who scored 23 points. Forward Marsel Ovsepian (202-90) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Artem Kozlov (194-90) produced a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds and Cuban forward Darol Hernandez (206-89) added 24 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Four BGU Minsk players scored in double figures. BGU Minsk's coach Dmitri Novitzky rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Rubon maintains fifth position in League with 10-9 record. Newly promoted BGU Minsk keeps the sixth place with 12 games lost. Rubon will face higher ranked Borisfen (#4) in Mogilev in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. BGU Minsk will play at home against the league's leader Grodno-93 and hope to win that game.
