There was no surprise in Mogi das Cruzes where 14th ranked Rio Claro (5-15) was defeated by third ranked Mogi (15-6) 93-80 on Friday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Mogi's pressure prevailed and they won that period 25-17 extending their advantage to 13 points. Mogi outrebounded Rio Claro 32-18 including 19 on the defensive glass. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. The best player for the winners was American forward Tyrone Curnell (203-88, college: Valdosta St.) who scored 27 points and 5 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). Naturalized American Shamell Stallworth (195-80, college: USF, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 15 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Mogi's coach Francisco Garcia used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international guard Eduardo Machado (193-82) who recorded 22 points and 4 assists and power forward Anderson Mosso (205-82, college: Chipola JC) added 14 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Five Mogi and four Rio Claro players scored in double figures. Mogi have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain third place with 15-6 record having just two points less than leader Bauru. Loser Rio Claro keeps the fourteenth position with 15 games lost. Mogi will face SKY/Basquete (#15) in Aldeota in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Rio Claro will play on the road against the league's leader Paschoalotto/Bauru and hope to win that game.
