There was no surprise when 5th ranked Pinar del Rio (6-9) was defeated on the road by third ranked Artemisa (9-5) 67-54. The game was mostly controlled by Artemisa. Pinar del Rio was better in second period 19-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Pinar del Rio to just 7 points in first quarter. Strangely Pinar del Rio outrebounded Artemisa 38-11 including a 28-8 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for the former international point guard Osmel Oliva (178-87) who led his team to a victory with 24 points. Forward Legismel Borlot (195-87) contributed with 16 points for the winners. The former international center Elieser Quintana (205-91) answered with 9 points and 18 rebounds and international guard Yuniskel Molina (185-93) added 11 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Pinar del Rio. Pinar del Rio's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Artemisa maintains third place with 9-5 record having seven points less than leader Capitalinos. Newly promoted Pinar del Rio keeps the fifth position with nine games lost. Artemisa will again play against Pinar del Rio (#5) in the next round. Pinar del Rio will have a break next round.
