Regular Season Round 37: Fuerza Regia - Halc.Rojos 99-93 OT

The most surprising game was another loss of top-ranked Halcones Rojos (27-7) in Monterrey on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by sixth ranked Fuerza Regia (18-15) in overtime 99-93. The hosts were tied at the half and again at the end of regular time. But they managed to win overtime period 12-6. Fuerza Regia looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. 26 personal fouls committed by Halcones Rojos helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: Long Beach St.) who helped to win the game recording 29 points and 7 rebounds. His fellow American import point guard Mike Mitchell (181-83, college: N.Mexico St.) contributed with 11 points, 9 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Four Fuerza Regia players scored in double figures. American forward Devin Ebanks (206-89, college: W.Virginia, agency: Interperformances) answered with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and international center Jose Gutierrez (206-93) added 19 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) in the effort for Halcones Rojos. Halcones Rojos' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Fuerza Regia have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Jefes. Halcones Rojos at the other side still keep top position with seven games lost. Fuerza Regia is looking forward to face higher ranked Halcones UV Xalapa (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Halcones Rojos will play against Jefes and are hoping to win this game.
