Eleventh ranked Brasilia won an overtime thriller against 10th ranked Pinheiros by one point 106-105. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Pinheiros won third quarter 21-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Pinheiros used huge pressure winning it 32-30 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 11-12. Strangely Pinheiros outrebounded Brasilia 45-32 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for American guard Kyle Lamonte (191-84, college: William Carey) who saved his team from a defeat with 30 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. International Guilherme Giovannoni (203-80, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 21 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Lamonte is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The former international forward Marcus Vinicius Toledo (201-86) answered with 30 points and 8 rebounds and American guard Jason Smith (183-83, college: Al.-Huntsville) added 24 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Pinheiros. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Brasilia have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain eleventh place with 9-12 record. Pinheiros at the other side keeps the tenth position with 11 games lost. Brasilia will play against higher ranked Sao Jose/Vinac (#9) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Pinheiros will play against Flamengo where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
