Fifth-ranked Santiago (6-10) made lots of trouble for third ranked Sancti Spiritus (11-4) on Saturday. Sancti Spiritus managed to secure only two-point victory 79-77. However their fans expected easier game. The hosts trailed by 7 points after three quarters before their 27-18 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Sancti Spiritus forced 22 Santiago turnovers. International Yamara Amargo (179-85) fired a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds (made all of her seven free throws) for the winners. Power forward Milaisis Duany (183-79) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds. International point guard Ineidis Casanova (165-88) produced a double-double by scoring 28 points and 4 assists and forward Arianne Mena (182-85) added 18 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sancti Spiritus have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 11-4 record having four points less than leader Pinar del Rio. Santiago at the other side keeps the fifth place with ten games lost. Sancti Spiritus are looking forward to face Guantanamo (#4) in the next round. Santiago will play against Camaguey and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
