Regular Season Round 18: Conquero - Gernika 72-70

Rather predictable result in Huelva where third ranked Conquero (15-3) edged 5th ranked Gernika (11-7) 72-70 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 18-13 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Gernika was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Maria Pina (187-87) who scored 17 points. American swingman Aja Parham (183-84, college: Boston Coll.) chipped in 16 points. At the other side the best for losing team was Romanian forward Claudia Pop (182-89, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who recorded 21 points and 5 rebounds (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!) and American Bernice Mosby (186-84, college: Baylor, agency: Josep and Nicolas) added 13 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Conquero maintains third position with 15-3 record behind leader Girona. Newly promoted Gernika keeps the fifth place with seven games lost. Conquero will have a break next round. Gernika will play at home against Campus Promete (#14) and hope to win that game.
