There was a minor upset when San Salvatore (0-1) was defeated at home by Castellammare (1-1) 75-69 on Saturday. San Salvatore trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 20-14 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 69-75 at the end of the game. The best player for the winners was Bulgarian power forward Diana Voynova (194-88, college: Duquesne) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds. Center Maria Minervino (194-86) chipped in 16 points and 8 rebounds. Latvian forward Dita Rozenberga (180-92) produced 38 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds and power forward Veronica Dell'Olio (190-93, agency: Players Group) added 12 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Castellammare will face Muggia (#5) at home in the next round. San Salvatore will play against Biassono and hope to win that game.
