Regular Season Round 15: PAOK - Aris 77-78

The most exciting game of round 15 in the A1 took place in Thessaloniki. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 3rd placed PAOK (11-3) to fourth ranked Aris (9-5) 78-77 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of PAOK. The guests trailed by 6 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 8-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 78-77. Aris outrebounded PAOK 47-33 including 20 on the offensive glass. 24 personal fouls committed by PAOK helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Cypriot-Bulgarian Aleksandar Vezenkov (206-95, college: Xavier) who had a double-double by scoring 29 points and 14 rebounds. American swingman Lamarcus Reed (195-88, college: Texas Arlington) chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Julian Vaughn (208-88, college: Georgetown) who recorded a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and the other American import swingman Marc Antonio Carter (191-85, college: NC-Wilmington) added 21 points respectively. PAOK's coach Soulis Markopoulos rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Aris have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 9-5 record. PAOK at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. Aris are looking forward to face Apollon Patras (#7) on the road in the next round. PAOK will play against KAOD (#11) and is hoping to win this game.
