There was no surprise when 14th ranked Panionios (3-12) was defeated at home by fifth ranked AEK Athens (8-7) 94-78 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 8-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 94-78. AEK Athens made 23-of-29 free shots (79.3 percent) during the game. Panionios was plagued by 32 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was British Pops Mensah-Bonsu (206-83, college: G.Washington) who scored 20 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Canadian guard Carl English (192-81, college: Hawaii) chipped in 20 points and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American William Coleman (206-88, college: Memphis) who recorded 17 points (perfect from the field making all six shots) and the other American import guard Justin Tubbs (190-87, college: E.Tenn.St.) added 15 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) respectively. Five AEK Athens and four Panionios players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted AEK Athens maintains fifth place with 8-7 record. Panionios lost their fourth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost.
