Regular Season Round 16: Las Tunas - Santiago 85-109

The game in supposed to be also worth to mention about. Second ranked Santiago (12-4) played at the court of 7th ranked Las Tunas (3-13). Santiago smashed Las Tunas 109-85. It looked good early as Las Tunas took an 5-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Santiago had a 30-19 second period charge getting the lead and Las Tunas were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 85-109. Santiago dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Las Tunas' 36. Worth to mention a great performance of international forward Esteban Martinez (192-87) who helped to win the game recording 30 points and Eddy Hechevarria (193-86) who added 21 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Santiago's coach Lazaro Guibot felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side swingman Yosniel Morales (196-87) responded with 17 points and 9 rebounds and guard Alfred Castilla (192-83) scored 20 points. Five Santiago and four Las Tunas players scored in double figures. Santiago maintains second position with 12-4 record having four points less than leader Capitalinos. Las Tunas lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the seventh place with 13 games lost. Santiago will play against Camaguey (#6) in the next round. Las Tunas will play against Guantanamo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
