There was no surprise in Perth where 8th ranked West Coast Waves (4-17) were defeated by sixth ranked Sydney Uni Flames (10-11) 93-85 on Saturday. West Coast Waves trailed by 11 points at halftime and as many as 21 after three quarters before a 32-19 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 85-93 at the end of the game. Sydney Uni Flames made 25-of-31 free shots (80.6 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Sydney Uni Flames especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. West Coast Waves were plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. American center Paris Johnson (193-89, college: San Diego St.) fired 20 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. International point guard Leilani Mitchell (165-85, college: Utah, agency: LBM Management) chipped in 14 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Four Sydney Uni Flames players scored in double figures. The former international guard Deanna Smith (179-80) produced 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and naturalized British forward Louella Tomlinson (193-88, college: St.Mary's, CA, agency: Regeneracom Sports) added 16 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. West Coast Waves' coach tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Sydney Uni Flames moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Bulleen B. and Canberra C. West Coast Waves lost fourteenth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 17 games lost. Sydney Uni Flames will face league's leader Townsville Fire at home in the next round and it may be the game of the week.
