Fourth-ranked Bulleen Boomers (10-11) made lots of trouble for second ranked Bendigo Spirit (15-6) on Sunday. Bendigo Spirit managed to secure only five-point victory 89-84. However their fans expected easier game. Bulleen Boomers were trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 21-19 charge of Bendigo Spirit, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 16-11. Bendigo Spirit made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 Bulleen Boomers turnovers. American forward Kelsey Griffin (188-87, college: Nebraska) fired a double-double by scoring 20 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. The former international Belinda Snell (180-81) chipped in 22 points. Five Bendigo Spirit players scored in double figures. The former international swingman Tess Madgen (180-90) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and American guard Laurie Koehn (173-82, college: Kansas St.) added 20 points respectively for lost side. Bulleen Boomers' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Bendigo Spirit have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position with 15-6 record behind leader Townsville F. Bulleen Boomers at the other side keep the fourth place with 11 games lost. Bendigo Spirit will face Canberra Capitals (#5) on the road in the next round. Bulleen Boomers will play against West Coast Waves in Perth and hope to win that game.
