Regular Season Round 29: Toyota Alvark - Mitsubishi DD 87-78

There was a minor upset in Tokyo where second-ranked Mitsubishi Dolphins (20-8) were defeated by fifth ranked Toyota Alvark (17-12) 87-78 on Sunday. Mitsubishi Dolphins trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 26-22 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 78-87 at the end of the game. The best player for the winners was American forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import forward Michael Parker (202-81, college: Evergreen St.) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. Five Toyota Alvark players scored in double figures. Toyota Alvark's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Senegalese-French forward Amath M'Baye (206-89, college: Oklahoma) produced a double-double by scoring 29 points and 12 rebounds and the former international forward Shogo Asayama (192-81) added 18 points respectively for the guests. Toyota Alvark maintains fifth place with 17-12 record. Mitsubishi Dolphins at the other side keep the second position with eight games lost. Toyota Alvark will face higher ranked Chiba Jets (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Mitsubishi Dolphins will play against Hyogo S. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
