Regular Season Round 34: Fukushima - Toyama Grouses 89-87

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Toyama Grouses (23-9) against ninth ranked Fukushima (10-22) on Sunday night. Visiting Toyama Grouses were edged by Fukushima in a tough game in Fukushima 87-89. It looked good early as Toyama Grouses took an 3-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Fukushima had a 19-14 second period charge getting the lead and Toyama Grouses were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 87-89. Fukushima made 22-of-29 charity shots (75.9 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Verdell Jones III (195-89, college: Indiana) who helped to win the game recording 29 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. The other American import forward Terrance Shannon (203-90, college: VCU) contributed with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. American forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific) replied with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists and Joho Masashi (183-82) added 23 points and 4 assists in the effort for Toyama Grouses. Five Toyama Grouses players scored in double figures. Fukushima moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Takamatsu FA and Bambitious Nara. Toyama Grouses at the other side keep the third position with nine games lost. Fukushima's next round opponent will be higher ranked Shimane Magic (#7) on the road and it may be quite challenging game. Toyama Grouses will play against Gunma (#8) and hope to win that game.
