Regular Season Round 19: Hapoel J-M - Maccabi Rishon 79-70

Very expected game when 6th ranked Maccabi Rishon (10-9) was defeated on the road by second ranked Hapoel Jerusalem (13-6) 79-70 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 6 points at the halftime before their 45-30 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. It was a great evening for international forward Lior Eliyahu (205-85) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. American-Venezuelan Donta Smith (201-83, college: SE Illinois JC) helped adding 15 points and 9 rebounds. Four Hapoel Jerusalem players scored in double figures. Hapoel Jerusalem's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American power forward Jeremis Smith (203-86, college: Georgia Tech) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds and international swingman Shawn Dawson (196-93) scored 20 points. The victory was the third consecutive win for Hapoel Jerusalem. They maintain second place with 13-6 record having four points less than leader Maccabi T-A. Maccabi Rishon lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the fifth position with nine games lost. Hapoel Jerusalem will face Ironi Nes-Ziona (#5) in Nes Ziyona in the next round. Maccabi Rishon will play at home against Hapoel Tel-Aviv and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
