NBL top team - Cairns Taipans (19-7) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat sixth ranked Kings (9-16) in Sydney 92-78. It looked good early as Kings took an 3-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Cairns Taipans had a 22-17 second period charge getting the lead and Kings were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 78-92. Cairns Taipans dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Kings' 34 and made 17-of-20 charity shots (85.0 percent) during the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Kings helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Cameron Tragardh (209-83, college: ORU) who scored 23 points and 5 rebounds. American guard Scottie Wilbekin (188-92, college: Florida) chipped in 17 points. Four Cairns Taipans players scored in double figures.
