Regular Season Round 30: Tsukuba R. - Hitachi SR 67-70
Date: February 11, 2015
Sixth-ranked Tsukuba R. (3-29) used its home court advantage to challenge first ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (25-6) on Wednesday. The visitors from Tokyo managed to secure only three-point victory 70-67. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 23-13. But Tsukuba R. won second period 15-8. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Naturalized American guard Aki Chambers (190-90, college: Cal Merced) notched 16 points to lead the effort and the former international guard Kenta Hirose (193-85) supported him with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Five Hitachi Sunrockers players scored in double figures. Hitachi Sunrockers' coach Michael Olson used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Even a double-double of 21 points and 16 rebounds by American forward Duke Crews (203-88, college: Bowie St.) did not help to save the game for Tsukuba R.. His fellow American import power forward Justin Reynolds (206-88, college: Texas A&M-CC) added 14 points and 7 rebounds. Hitachi Sunrockers maintains first position with 25-6 record. Loser Tsukuba R. keeps the sixth place with 29 games lost. Hitachi Sunrockers will meet at home league's second-placed Mitsubishi Dolphins in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Tsukuba R. will play against Hyogo S. (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
