Regular Season Round 18: Guantanamo - Las Tunas 64-67

The most exciting game of round 18 in the LSB took place in Las Tunas. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 8th ranked Guantanamo (2-15) to seventh ranked Las Tunas (5-13) 67-64 in the game for the seventh place. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Guantanamo won third quarter 22-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Las Tunas won last quarter 16-15. They also forced 19 Guantanamo turnovers. The best player for the winners was the former international center Roberlandis Castillo (206-83) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Yadiel Mena (170-89) chipped in 13 points. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international swingman Yoannis Soria (195-86) who recorded 26 points and 5 rebounds and forward Antonio Sanchez (195-85) added 13 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Las Tunas maintains seventh position with 5-13 record. Guantanamo lost fifteenth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 15 games lost. Las Tunas are looking forward to face higher ranked Camaguey (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Guantanamo will play against the league's second-placed Santiago where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
