Regular Season Round 19: Taipans - United 84-62

Not a big story in a game when 5th ranked United (11-15) was rolled over on the road by first ranked Cairns Taipans (20-7) 84-62 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Cairns Taipans. United was better in fourth quarter 14-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded United 44-31 including 36 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for American forward Torrey Craig (198-90, college: USC Upstate) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 9 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Scottie Wilbekin (188-92, college: Florida) helped adding 17 points. At the losing side American guard Jordan McRae (198-91, college: Tennessee) responded with 15 points and 5 rebounds and the former international forward Mark Worthington (203-83, college: Metro St.) scored 11 points and 8 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cairns Taipans maintains first place with 20-7 record. United lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with 15 games lost. Cairns Taipans will face league's second-placed New Zealand Breakers in Auckland in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. United will play at home against Kings and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
