Regular Season Round 9: Kutaisi - Batumi 91-97

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Kutaisi (6-3) against fifth ranked Batumi (4-5) on Friday night. Host Kutaisi was defeated by Batumi in a tough game in Kutaisi 91-97. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Kutaisi. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Kutaisi won third quarter 24-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Batumi dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Kutaisi's 30 and made 25-of-33 free shots (75.8 percent) during the game. American guard B.J. Young (191-93, college: Arkansas) nailed 37 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds for the winning side and his fellow American import Nick Kellogg (190-91, college: Ohio) accounted for 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Slovenian point guard Mirza Sarajlija (187-91) came up with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and Azerbaijani guard Zaur Pashaev (188-83) added 21 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for Kutaisi in the defeat. Five Batumi and four Kutaisi players scored in double figures. Kutaisi's coach Malkhaz Kokhreidze rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Batumi maintains fifth place with 4-5 record. Kutaisi at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. They share it with Rustavi. Batumi will meet at home Mgzavrebi (#7) in the next round. Kutaisi will play against Energy Invest (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
